What is aplastic anaemia?

Aplastic anaemia is a rare and life threatening condition caused by the bone marrow not functioning properly. It affects roughly 2 in every 1 million people.

In people with aplastic anaemia, the bone marrow fails to produce enough of all three types of blood cells – red, white and platelets.
Aplastic anaemia treatment is very similar to the treatment someone might have for leukaemia - but because it's so rare, families often don't have access to the same information and support.

The Aplastic Anaemia Trust is the only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting people affected by aplastic anaemia and funding research into this rare form of bone marrow failure.

Why we're supporting The Aplastic Anaemia Trust

Rhinos is the home of an athlete who was diagnosed with Aplastic Anaemia last year. Currently proving medical science wrong by following different treatment methods under medical guidance, and utilising strongman training as a way to successfully manage the condition. Even having the strength & ability to compete whilst undergoing intensive treatment which includes regular blood and platelet transfusions & an aggressive medication management regime of daily chemotherapy & immunosuppressive therapy. Showcasing what can be achieved through determination, discipline and strength training even with all odds stacked against you.

By donating you'll be...

  • Providing support for people affected by aplastic anaemia. The AAT are determined that anyone facing a diagnosis will have someone available to talk to about it - someone who understands what they’re going through.
  • Funding some really exciting research, which means a way forward towards more treatment options, and a deeper understanding of which patients will respond to which treatment.
